Active fit method for spacesuit soft upper torso

Abstract:

The upper torso is the foundation of the spacesuit, which makes it of significant influence on the spacesuit fit. There are two types of fit design of the upper torso:the passive fit design and the active fit design. The active fit design method realizes the reconfiguration of the soft upper torso, which achieves the best spacesuit fit. The Stewart platform is applied in the fit design of upper torso to research the active fit design method for soft spacesuit upper torso. First of all, the characteristic and kinematics of the Stewart platform are analyzed. Secondly, the active fit design method of upper torso is proposed by applying the Stewart platform to upper torso. Thirdly, the mathematical model of the active fit design method is built based on kinematics analysis of the active fit design method. What is more, the performance of the active fit design method is calculated by the model. Finally, after the manufacture of the experimental model, the active fit design method experiment is conducted. The consequence of study elucidates that the active fit design method for the soft upper torso is effective in the scye bearing adjusting, meeting the fit requirement of the upper torso, which testifies the validity of the active fit design method based on Stewart platform. The research of the active fit design method for the upper torso provides some reference for the fit design of spacesuit in the future.
