A Heading Correction Method for Airborne Navigation Equipment

Abstract

The heading correction problem of the small and medium-sized unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) navigation equipment is discussed in this paper. To correct the heading data output from the UAV's magnetometer, this paper introduces a new method called "looking-back", which can obtain the heading angular misalignment data from airborne electro-optical pod and global positioning system (GPS). This method has significantly improved the accuracy of the target positioning of airborne electro-optical pod by correcting the UAV's heading data during the UAV flight test of verification. It can decrease the margin of error for the target azimuth from 2.5° to 0.5°, as well as to decrease the margin of error for the target distance from 3.0 km to 0.5 km. This test proves the validity and efficiency of the "looking-back" method for the correction for UAV heading.
