A method is proposed to enhance the stability of a system with a direct current (DC) generator driving constant power load (CPL) based on damping compensation. Optimal design for input filter parameters in the system is accomplished to obtain the minimization of peak output impedance, and the design process is discussed in detail. By means of the Bode plot and Nyquist contour, stability analysis is carried out on two systems with DC generators driving CPL, one based on damping compensation and the other on only one capacitor. Simulations and experiments for both systems are used to validate the theoretical analysis. The results indicate that the capacity of a DC generator driving CPL is enhanced by more than 100% for the system based on damping compensation as compared with the system with only one capacitor.
