Abstract: In t his paper, deeply discussed is the acoustic field char acter of the ultrasonic pulse wave in ultrasonic testing of aeronaut ical pr oducts. It is known t hat the field character influences greatly the accuracy of flaw equivalent in t he testing. The method of calculating the acoustic field of pulse ultr asonic wave is resear ched and the relat ive special-purpose softwar e is designed; the distribution of acoustic pressure on t he axis of the commercial ultrasonic tr ansducer is calculated and plotted in the light of computer and the software. It is discussed how the spectrum of the bottom echoes is influenced by mater ials and thickness. The acoustic field character of the pulse wave r adiated by the commer cial transducer is compared wit h that of an ideal continuous mono-frequency wave. The results provide the scientific basis for improvements of accur acy of the flaw equivalent in ultrasonic test ing.
