Numerical Simulation and Analysis of Aerodynamics of WIG Craft in Cruise over Ground

Abstract: Numerical results are presented by simulating the flow field around a WIG (Wing-in-ground effect) craft over ground. The Favre-averaged N-S equation of steady compressible flow and the standard k-ε turbulence model are solved by the finite-volume method. The effects of flight height and incidence angle on aerodynamics of WIG craft are provided. Image method ideal vortex model is used for the analysis of how ground effect impacts wingtip vortex and airflow downwash angle. The influence of ground effect on induced drag is analyzed in detail.
