Abstract: Hybrid actuation system (HAS) with dissimilar redundancies conforms to the development trend of future actuation systems in more electric aircraft. It is composed of a power-by-wire actuator and a traditional servo valve controlled hydraulic actuator (SHA). The structure and operating principle of HAS are represented, and its mathematic model is established. Modeling and theoretical analysis for the HAS operating in conventional operating modes, i.e., the active/active mode and active/passive mode, are carried out. Furthermore, a new operating mode of HAS, the active/no-load mode, is proposed. The structure, operating principle and modeling of HAS in this new mode are respectively discussed. Finally, comparative analysis is performed when HAS operates in these three modes. The analysis results provide a guideline to determine the specific operating mode of the HAS in different circumstances.
