Abstract:

This paper presents a summarization of the media op-timization, transformation mechanism and theoretical calculation of the reversible phase-change optical disk. The material approaches include the improvement of stability, enhancement of contrast and the incre-asement of crystallization rate. Transformation dynamics is discussed. It is found that the film with stoichiometric composition not only has the largest activation energy of crystallization but also has the greatest transformation index. We first report that the photo-crystallization dominates in optical recording media since the time required for crystallization is much less than that of the pure thermal transformation. The recursion method of the Green's Function has been used for electronic DOS (density of states) calculation. The results are in agreement with that of the LCAO (linear combination of atomic orbits) method.
