THE CALCULATION OF THE STRESS INTENSITY FACTOR FOR A GENERAL BRANCHED CRACK

Abstract: In the present paper, by using Schwartz-Christoffel mapping function and Muskhelishvili' s method, the stress intensity factor (SIF) for L-shaped and Z-shaped and general branched cracks in two-dimentional elastic stress state was calculated. An approximate engineering method for predicting the SIF for a Z-shaped crack was also proposed.
