A NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF AXIAL FLOW COMPRESSOR CASING TREATMENT

Abstract: Research on casing treatment is still in an experimental stage. There are only some simple empirical or semi-empirical models for theoretical calculation, utilization of which to a large extent still relies on experiments. This paper tries the numerical imitation of 3D flowfield of casing treatment on the basis of experimental studies and explores a new way for the theoretical computation of flowfield with casing treatments.Using an inviscid model with inlet total pressure gradient and a Denton J D. scheme, the 3D flowfield of compressor casing treatment is numerically solved for the first time, and also some boundary singularities and numerical stability are explored. Agreement is attained in qualitative explanations of some casing treatment test results and its mechanism.
