Abstract: A tip shrouded blade is analyzed by using a specially developed cyclic symmetric contact finite element technique to determine the contact states of the adjacent tip shrouds and the adjacent platforms, and to study the influence of the contact states on the displacement and stress field of the blade. The technique, and the computer program used here are verified by comparing the computed strains with the measured strains for a test blade. As an example, then the second stage rotor blade of WS9 HP turbine is analyzed under 16 initial clearance / load cases. Finally, some helpful conclusions for design of a tip shrouded blade are drawn.
