Abstract: A new structure material family-fiber reinforced aluminum laminates (extended from term ARALL)was described in this paper, which is developed recently and has attracted attention of many west aircraft manufactures. The material family has combined the advantages of composite and alloy of aluminum and overcomes some disadvantages of them. The most attractive behaviour of this material family is its excellent resistance of fatigue and damage tolerance. Different configurations of the material family with different properties to meet some special usage can be achieved by changing its composition and procedure. The development, composition, properties and application of two typical configurations of the material family-aramid reinforced aluminum lami-nates(ARALL)and R-glass reinforced aluminum laminates(CLARE)are briefly introduced. Finally, the problems which need to be solved in the future development are also discussed.
Key words: fiber reinforced aluminum laminate, resistance of fatigue, damage toler-ance
