INVESTIGATION ON THE REACTION JOINING OF SiC CERAMIC TO Ni BASED SUPERALLOY

Abstract: The joining process of SiC ceramic to Ni based superalloy using Fe and Ni powders as fillers was investigated by Gleeble 1500 thermo mechanical testing machine. The effect of welding temperature, pressure and holding time at high temperature on the welding strength was studied. The optimum process parameters were determined and the shearing strength of the specimen obtained under the optimum process condition (using 10mm×10mm non standard specimens) was above 34.3MPa. Microstructural analysis showed that the formation of the reaction layer between the ceramic and filler was controlled by the diffusion of Fe and Ni into SiC ceramic.
