Abstract: The influence of pre-alloyed CuSn on selective laser sintering of Cu-based and Ni-based metal powder is investigated. The experimental results demonstrate that choosing suitable processing parameters, especially laser power and scan speed, can lead to a sound sintered quality of Cu-CuSn-CuP and Ni-CuSn-CuP powder systems with minimal "balling" effect and curling deformation. Since the melting point of the structural metal Cu is close to that of CuSn, the high densification of Cu-CuSn-CuP powder system with homogenous microstructure can be achieved by means of using feasible processing conditions and suitable content of the binder CuSn. The sufficient densification of Ni-CuSn-CuP powder system is also obtained, however, the microstructure demonstrates to be heterogeneous since the melting point of Ni is much higher than that of pre-alloyed CuSn.
