Planetary gearbox is the core component of helicopter transmission, so fault diagnosis of planetary gearbox is a key topic for Health and Usage Monitoring System (HUMS) of helicopters. Since helicopter planetary transmission train system is characterized by complex structure, numerous components, instantaneous change of working condition and severe environment, the vibration signal of helicopter planetary gear train is polluted seriously, and the signal has complex components and strong non-stationarity and coupling modulation characteristics. In addition, complexity of fault modes and insufficient fault samples make it difficult to diagnose the helicopter gear transmission fault. Faced with these problems, researchers have achieved fruitful results in signal-based noise reduction and signal separation, time-frequency analysis and decoupling demodulation, mathematical modeling and pattern recognition fault diagnosis technology. Future research directions and development trend of fault diagnosis technology for helicopter planetary gear train are also provided.
