Abstract

A novel fast evaluation simulation method of full-polarized inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) image is introduced to construct a great number of high-quality ISAR templates required by radar automatic target recognition of complex target such as ground vehicles and aircrafts. Firstly, surface roughness of different parts for complex target is quantitatively described utilizing a roughness-grading-technique. Secondly, the specular and multiple reflection of rough surfaces in addition to that the edge diffraction of piece-wise edges is predicted by an efficiency-improved shooting-bouncing-ray and equivalent edge currents method, which is coherently accumulated to obtain the accurate far-field scattering fields of complex target. Finally, the high-quality full-polarized ISAR images are computed based on these fields. Experimental results of benchmarks, typical aircraft and ground vehicle validate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method.
