Many kinds of dynamical processes (such as redundancy degradation, fault detection, and fault isolation) exist in an aircraft hydraulic actuator system (AHAS). This makes it difficult for the traditional reliability analysis based on a two-state model to describe its dynamic behaviors and performance degradation processes. To deal with the issue, this paper combines hierarchical clustering and generalized stochastic Petri nets (GSPN) to build up a reliability model of AHAS. Based on this model, the effect of the fault detection rate of the fault detection devices in AHAS is discussed in detail. The analysis shows that due to this effect, there exists a potential failure state and the state of fatal failure in an aircraft hydraulic actuator system in addition to the operational state and normal failure state. Therefore, in actual reliability design for an aircraft hydraulic system, the rational allocation of system reliability parameters should be designed carefully to ensure that the probability of an aircraft in mortal danger is reduced to the minimum.
