Research on Airworthiness Certification Technology of Normal Aircraft natural icing flight test

Abstract: When applying for Flight in Known Icing Condition(FIKI), the civil aircraft should show the compliance for the requirements of Icing rule. In the compliance, the natural icing flight test is a critical item which must be completed. Taking Y12F natural icing flight test as an example, based on guidance material issued by the CAAC and FAA for FIKI and combined with the airworthiness certification process of natural icing flight test of Y12F aircraft, this paper summarized the airworthiness certification requirements and critical techniques of the de-icing and anti-icing system, the test instrument and installation, flight area, icing atmospheric conditions,test items, test conditions, test procedures, test results and data analysis, Icing detection, the position of icing detector installation, icing accumulation state monitoring etc. and described the classification definition, solution, design change, and supplementary verification of the problems which found in the test. Concurrently certificated by CAAC and FAA, Y12F FIKI obtained the approval of CAAC and FAA. The constructed airworthiness certification method for natural icing flight test, has become an important practical guidance material for airworthiness certification of flight in known icing conditions.
