Bevel gear remanufacturing technology based on profile modification

Abstract: The bevel gear is an important part in an aero-engine transmission system, and wearing, pitting, spalling and scuffing are easy to appear on the tooth surface of the gear in running. In this paper, failure causes of the bevel gear and feasibility of remanufacturing are analyzed, profile modification technology is introduced, the fault discriminate standard of bevel gear is set up, remanufacturing technological method of bevel gear is draw up, carburization depth and micro-hardness test, gear assembly check, engine test run. The results show that carburization depth, micro-hardness, meshing clearance, color marking check and tooth contact patterns accord with technical requirements. The gear drives smoothly and steadily, with good meshing performance, and reduced vibration and noise. Remanufacturing of the bevel gear costs only 11.3% of the new gear and saves 86% energy and 78% material, obtaining remarkable economic and social benefits and having a wide application foreground.
