The Eulerian method for predicting droplet collection efficiency is widely used in both theoretical studies and practical applications of aircraft icing and anti-/de-icing process. The Eulerian method cannot capture the crossing of droplet trajectories during coalescence. On complex surfaces, this may lead to deviations in the computed results, and therefore validation is required. In this study, droplet streamlines are obtained directly from the conventional Eulerian droplet velocity field, and a collection-efficiency calculation method based on Eulerian streamlines is established. The validity of the Eulerian collection efficiency is preliminarily assessed by comparing the differences between the Eulerian streamline method and the conventional Eulerian results. Simulations of collection efficiency cases using the conventional Eulerian method and the Eulerian streamline method were performed under the same Eulerian droplet flow field. The results indicate that, in the absence of droplet coalescence, the collection efficiency results from both methods are consistent and agree with literature data, validating the feasibility of the Eulerian streamline method and the reliability of conventional Eulerian results. When droplet coalescence and trajectory crossing occur, the results on the affected downstream surfaces differ between the two methods, defining the uncertain region of droplet collection efficiency from the conventional Eulerian method. By extracting streamlines from the conventional Eulerian method and performing collection efficiency calculations, a rapid preliminary validation of the Eulerian method can be achieved. This work provides important support for predicting droplet impingement characteristics on complex surfaces as well as accurate simulation in aircraft icing and ice-protection processes.
